Samsung WM7 phone : Cetus

While we’re still waiting to see the first Windows Mobile 7 phones on the market but no doubt with the release of them not far off it’s time to see Samsung’s offering, well read a few tit-bits of what has been leaked so far.

Called the Cetus, we know that it will have to meet Microsoft’s strict minimum requirements for to run the OS which we’ll run through

  • High end processor : Armv7 Cortex/Scorpion or better
  • 256MB RAM
  • Capacitive touchscreen
  • FM Radio
  • accelerometer
  • at least a 5MP camera
  • at least 8GB of internal storage

Whether the Samsung Cetus will better these we’re unsure as the full specifications of the phone aren’t available yet. What we do know is that it will have a 4” 800×480 AMOLED screen. On top of that it will have a front facing camera aswell as a 5MP camera on the reverse. It will also have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity with built in GPS and a Micro USB slot.

Sadly that’s all we can offer for now as there’s no images or hardware specs. If any new information comes about we’ll update.

Samsung Galaxy S2 : Rumours

July 19, 2010 by admin

The Samsung Galaxy S hasn’t been with us long but the super 5 star rated blower is apparently getting an update early next year, according to Russian “internets” types. Now rumours are exactly what they are, RUMOURS but apparently the Ruskies are very much on the ball when it comes to Samsung mobile rumours and have gotten it right before. The one thing making this a certified rumour is the specs look amazing, a bit too good to be true. We’ll give you the rundown of what they said anyway, we can certainly hope it’s true.

The Galaxy S certainly packed some great specs but the S2 takes it to the next level. A bigger 4.3” 1280×720 Super AMOLED screen (wow in itself) with 32GB of storage and the ability to add another 32GB from microSD. It will also pack A-GPS, Bluetooth 3.0 and N-standard WiFi. Camera wise you’re looking at 8MP but again the ability to shoot HD video. To tap into the iPhone 4 market it’ll have a similar style accelerometer/gyroscope feature. Now the rumour also states that by the time the phone’s due, next year, this mobile will be running Android OS 3 but also a massive 1GB of RAM.

Again the only thing with rumours is details, and we have none but I’m sure IF we get some more, we’ll pass them on :)

Lenovo 3D Laptop

July 12, 2010 by admin

It wasn’t long ago that Chinese Computer firm Lenovo announced its IdeaPad Y560d, it’s first 3D laptop. Well it’s on sale in the States now. 3D technology is a bit of a blur to me sometimes with active, passive technology etc and now it appears there’s another way that this laptop achieves it. Read on for more.

To start with the basic specs which compared to most laptops aren’t that “basic”. Home Premium, powered with that fantastic Core i7-720QM processor and 4GB of RAM should be able to keep the laptop running smoothly, surely running any 3D content types on it’s 15.6” Full HD will be more strain than your average images. It also packs a 500GB HDD.

Now the 3D bit. It uses what’s known as TriDef 3D. A mixture of polarised glasses like your normal 3D stuff. A layer of special coating on the screen and then a 3D software generator that renders standard content into a 3D affair. This means rather than it being true 3D the combination of the three give it what Lenovo say a “life-like 3D experience.” So basically your standard 2D photo snaps could be made to look 3D by the laptop. Sadly 3D inputs, such as 3D Blu-Ray will not be compatible, but the software will give a good go at your movies to make them look 3D too. How good this looks I don’t know.

Available in the States now at $1499 or £990 in English monies, we don’t have an official UK date or price yet.

Samsung Q Laptops

July 12, 2010 by admin

A lot of laptops we’ve seen recently are trying to be as “portable” as possible whether that being the thinnest, the smallest or the less weighty but usually when you steer down that path the goods that are produced are very limited. has recently issued the Q series laptop. Its not looking for the worlds thinnest laptop title nor are we looking at a gaming powerhouse with a half hour battery life. It’s just a standard sized laptop with a good spec and above all a nice price range.

Coming in a fabulous 3 sizes, 13.3”(Q330), 14”(Q430) and the 15.6”(Q530) are certainly aesthetically pleasing with a brushed metal look. Running Windows 7  you’ll get a choice of or Core i5 chipsets to power the lappy. One can also get an HDD up to the size of 640GB. The 13.3” laptop has the option of GeForce 310M GPU whereas the larger two laptops an get GeForce 330M although what is slightly disappointing is the screen resolutions on all will only get to 1366×768. Also with 3 HDMI ports, N-standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 it attends to the rest of your needs.

Available this month say the prices will start at £599.

Motorola Droid(Milestone) X : US release 15th July

June 24, 2010 by admin

The Motorola Droid or Milestone as us Brits know it by had quite a good success in this country, but was even more successful in the States. Well the US phone company has now announced the first Milestone family follow up will be due July 15th in the US, in time to rival the now released iPhone 4. One of the main successes for the Milestone/Droid was its Android OS and its slide out keyboard which although wasn’t the most comfortable it worked pretty well. The rumour mill has ground out quite a few chunks of information or photos of dropped protoypes in gym’s etc well now we have an official update for sure.

The Droid/Milestone X doesn’t appear to have the keyboard last time opting for a total touchscreen experience. A 4.3” FWVGA 854×480 screen certainly makes the phone look large, like the Xperia X10 but the body itself is still pretty slim. Powered by a 1GHz processor running the brilliant Android 2.1 upgradeable to 2.2 Froyo later this summer for Flash support) with an all new MotoBlur running over the top. It will also have an 8MP camera with 720p video capture and further media support with an apparent DLNA app and HDMI out.

Unfortunately the release is US only for now but keep an eye out for a UK release.

Beam me up Scotty : Samsung Beam almost here

June 22, 2010 by admin

Sorry for the cheese but it had to be done. Remember the Samsung Beam we spoke about a while back , the first mobile phone to incorporate a projector so one can show their pics and vids onto a wall. Well back then it was just a prototype, now Samsung are unveiling it in Singapore next month so it can’t be too long before we can get our hands on it in Blighty and leave us all with “Beaming” smiles…………

As with the new-wave of Samsung mobiles it’s blasting us with a 3.7” Super AMOLED screen for those super nice rich, bright colours and that wonderful Android OS. Connectivity wise you’re looking at HSDPA, 3G, Wi-Fi and the new Bluetooth 3.0. Packing an 8MP camera for good quality pics, it’ll also shoot HD video, a must for todays top smartphones. Now obviously what makes the Beam stand out is it has a mini projector, capable of 50” wide images at a brightness level of 9 lumens. It’ll also back a-GPS and a built in FM radio.

Obviously we wont have any prices till the networks announce it’s release but I’m glad to see this phone made it past prototype and hopefully will live up to it’s potential.

Panasonic SC-BTX77 and BTX75 : Blu-Ray Home Cinema

June 14, 2010 by admin

Home Cinema is a big market now, I guess mainly due to the fact it’s so expensive to go to the cinema and with the development of HD video and sound it’s just as good to watch at home that it is to go out and spend a fortune on tickets and sweets. Panasonic have just revealed two new models of Blu-Ray home cinema kit, neither top end or indeed bottom end they certainly are pleasing to the eye and have a couple of nifty features.

Firstly what’s interesting is they are both 2.1 setups (incorporating 2 front speakers and a subwoofer) yet Panasonic say the sound output from them will sound pretty much like a 7.1 setup. How? Apparently it’s all due to the technology inside the speakers and their construction. Even the small subwoofer, which is on the small side in comparison to most Panasonic claims gives “powerful, reverberating bass”.

What’s great aesthetically pleasing is the design and use. The front of the unit has a sliding door which when opened allows the user to insert a disc or dock an iPod. When an iPod is docked, you can play any content from it onto your telly. Other features of both models are “High Precision 4:4:4 and PHL Chroma Processor Plus technology”. In English that basically means it boosts picture quality of your content. The only difference between the two models is the SC-BTX77 model has Pure Direct Sound speakers, in other words they’re better :) . Another feature is the Panasonic Viera cast. This allows YouTube video access and playback and there’s also a USB port and SD card access for even more content playback.

Available now the RRP for the kit starts from £450.Panasonic SC-BTX77

June 14, 2010 by admin

The Samsung Galaxy is S is receiving a lot of good press from it’s Super AMOLED screen, super fast processing abilities and above all its HD content. This week also saw the announcement of iPhone 4.0 and Samsung were quick to judge and slam the Cupertino’s baby’s screen, claiming it wasn’t a patch on their Galaxy S’s. Well now iPhone 4 is incoming, so to the Galaxy S, which you could essentially get in your hands by tomorrow (iPhone Pre-order starts tomorrow)

For a quick recap on the Galaxy S it has a 4” WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen runing that wonderful Android OS. There’s also the usual suspects too, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity and a 5MP camera which is capable of shooting HD video. Couple all this with a 1GHz processor and a file extension support that will make your PC blush, this is some serious kit.

Acer Aspire One 533 : HD netbook

June 14, 2010 by admin

The thing with netbooks in my opinion is they’re all well and good to carry about and do the odd bit of word processing or web surfingin a coffee shop, but they cant really do much else. has obviously noted this and has updated its range to allow HD video capabilities but also given them extra connectivity but still giving decent battery life.

The 533 has a 10.1” 1280 x 720 screen. Alright it’s not Full HD but 720p is still pretty good. Powered by either the Intel Atom N455 nor N475 you can opt for 1GB or 2GB of memory. It also has up to 250GB of storage. The standard WiFi comes too but you can also have the option to include 3G connectivity and the latest Bluetooth 3.0. Battery wise, there’s 3 options for you to pick from. The highest being a six-cell affair which will give up to 10 hours of use, but also will add weight.

Available in July there’s no price but with so many options to choose from they’re going to vary anyway.

Now we have Freeview HD it was only a matter of time before we’re inundated with Freeview HD boxes of all shapes sizes and flavours and obviously if you want to record your telly you’ll need an HD PVR. Dutch electronics experts Philips have released one just in time for the World Cup and just as Sky have released the 1TB version of its Sky+ HD box.

Inside you’ll get 500GB of storage to store and record all your favourite Freeview HD shows via the twin tuners. The usual routine of watching one program whilst recording another is available here too. Basically if you’re recording a SD programme you can record up to 250 hours whereas HD programmes, you’ll get around 125 hours.

Now obviously the other thing you need is Freeview HD, which at the moment is only available in half the UK so if you’re luck enough to live in an area with the HD signal the Philips HDT8520 will set you back £299.PhilipsPVRHDT8520 thumb Philips HDT8520 : Freeview HD PVR
