JVC Picsio WP10 and FM2 : Flip Cams
September 6, 2010 by admin

With the obvious new popularity in the small “flip” camcorder it seems everyone is now involved with JVC now entering the market with two new touchscreen laden affairs the WP10 and FM2. It makes sense really. The compact digital camera is getting smaller and phone camersa better the consumers obviously want smaller pocket-size products. Camcorders are certainly a lot smaller than they used to be but don’t fit in your pocket like a flip cam.
Both new JVC models are certainly packing. Both can shoot at a wonderful full 1080p and also have the option to reduce to 720p, iFrame format (960×540 H.264), Quarter HD and even has the option for users to take time-lapse style videos. They also have a decent enough 4x zoom, but all these features can be controlled by the touchscreen situated on the rear of the camera. Both also have HDMI output to hook up to your HDTV and both have SD card storage. Now for each model there’s a subtle difference. The FM2 has a pop-out USB port for easy connectivity whereas the WP10 is actually waterproof to 10feet so you could get a couple of snorkelling vids on your holidays or shots in the rain in this country.
Both due sometime this month ther’s no definite prices yet but it’s rumoured around £120 for the FM2 and £180 for the WP10.

Blackberry Torch 9800

About a month ago Blackberry unveiled it’s latest phone that would be the first out with the new Blackberry 6 OS. Now we didn’t touch on it at the time but we’re letting you know now due to the fact it’s now got a release date and price for this country and it’s going to be later than Blackberry initially suggested (surprise, surprise).
AS said earlier it’s the first Blackberry release to have it’s all new Blackberry 6 OS. The 3.2” 480×360 touchscreen has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and will also sport 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded via MicroSD. There will be Bluetooth connectivity alongside WiFi b/g/n and it will also pack a 5MP camera with flash. Now although the specs aren’t mind-blowing, the phone’s OS should be a big enough draw to it, especially for all the Blackberry fans out there.
Initially Blackberry said it would be weeks after the US release it would reach our shores, sadly it’s now going to be late October. Our friends expansys have the phone up on their website now to pre-order but at a whopping £569.99 it seems quite pricey. Play.com also have the phone listed too, but they’re asking for a much more reasonable £499.99 SIM-free.

Samsung Galaxy Q : The S but smaller

We’ve spoken about the Galaxy S quite a lot recently mainly due to the fact it looked great before it came out and all we keep reading from other sources is how great it is since it’s release. Samsung phones in my opinion have always been just “alright” never exceeding the strengths of Nokia of old or the iPhone today, but I’d love to have a go with Samsung’s iPhone killer to see if the hype is worth believing, plus it runs Android and I do love Android. Well Samsung are taking it to what seems to be the new “next level”. Nokia did it with the N97, Sony have done it with the Xperia X10. Take their giant smartphones and well, make them smaller.
The Galaxy Q has pretty much all the same specs as the Galaxy S, bt as nothing is actually truly official we can only let you know what we know. a 3” AMOLED screen still powered with the 1GHz processor and 16GB of storage. the other difference rumour is that the Q will be a “candy bar” phone and operate a full QWERTY keyboard (I’m always a fan of these) plus as it’s not out for a few months on release should have had the Android 2.2 upgrade. Couple all this with an 8MP HD video capable camera and a 1MP camera on the front, it certainly looks to be a decent enough downsize.
Sadly it’s all just rumourage, so no price or exact release date but you’ll be looking towards Christmas for the Galaxy Q.

Samsung WM7 phone : Cetus

While we’re still waiting to see the first Windows Mobile 7 phones on the market but no doubt with the release of them not far off it’s time to see Samsung’s offering, well read a few tit-bits of what has been leaked so far.
Called the Cetus, we know that it will have to meet Microsoft’s strict minimum requirements for to run the OS which we’ll run through
- High end processor : Armv7 Cortex/Scorpion or better
- 256MB RAM
- Capacitive touchscreen
- FM Radio
- accelerometer
- at least a 5MP camera
- at least 8GB of internal storage
Whether the Samsung Cetus will better these we’re unsure as the full specifications of the phone aren’t available yet. What we do know is that it will have a 4” 800×480 AMOLED screen. On top of that it will have a front facing camera aswell as a 5MP camera on the reverse. It will also have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity with built in GPS and a Micro USB slot.
Sadly that’s all we can offer for now as there’s no images or hardware specs. If any new information comes about we’ll update.

Pure Evoke 1S : Marshall Branded DAB radio
August 6, 2010 by admin

If you’re into music or at least musical instruments Marshall should be a brand you all recognise with its lovely black and gold colouring and Spinal Tap admired amplifiers that went “up to 11”.
Pure, the DAB radio experts teamed up with them a couple of years back (Evoke Marshall 1-XT) and made a DAB radio branded with Marshall and adopted it’s unique designs but this was at a time when DAB was still quite expensive and not as popular. Well Pure have decided to resurrect it again only this time it’s called the Pure Evoke 1S Marshall. It’s pretty much the same, now packing portability in the form of being able to be battery powered as well as mains, an FM tuner and an input for you to plug your iPod in too. There’s also an option to pick up an extra Marshall stack shaped speaker to add that extra volume to your digital music fest.
Not only that but this time it’s heading to the masses. Firstly though one will only be able to pick it up at HMV stores or at HMV.com in the coming weeks as an exclusive thing until the rest of the world picks it up some time in September. The Evoke 1S will be priced at £120, still a bit pricey for a DAB but it certainly looks great and the first incarnation became quite the collectors item, and the extra speaker will set you back £34.99.

Amazon Kindle : At Last UK Official

Believe it or not this month will be a momentous occasion for Amazon Kindle fans in the UK as it’s finally getting an official UK model release. This will mean no more having to get an adaptor to use your Kindle in this country and should be easy to pick up. I’ve not had much chance to play with an e-reader to be honest mainly because I’m not a big book reader (i prefer to watch the film adaptations
) but from what I know the Amazon Kindle is a major player in the market and surely this news will be interesting to it’s UK users.
Arriving on the 27th day of this very month, Amazon will start it’s very own UK Kindle store and 2 models will be for sale. The first being a WiFi only model that will set the punters back £109 and then there’s the WiFi + 3G model at £149. Now correct me if I’m wrong that’s a lot cheaper than an iPad, so if books on the go is your thing surely this might be worth a look at. What else? Well they’ve sent the Kindle on a diet. Now 20% smaller in dimensions, it’s also 50g lighter adding to the portability and also the screen is now up to 50% sharper. Added to that a fantastic battery life of a month, yes a month(provided all the WiFi and 3G are off although it lasts 10 days with them on) and a new WebKit browser to improve it’s web browsing it’s certainly shaping itself up for us here in Blighty.
When the new Amazon Kindle store opens with it users will have a starting choice of 400,000 titles to pick from and your Kindle will hold up to 3500 of them you’ll get plenty of choice. Amazon are also saying that if you spot an eBook cheaper elsewhere they will beat the price…… Nice one Amazon.

New iMac : upgraded
August 5, 2010 by admin
We’ve been a bit slow to up this news to you but the iMac has recently had a spec overhaul (as they do) and they look pretty tasty. However I’ll always be a PC fan but I can see the draw for some people to go for the iMac providing it’s for a genuine reason other than “it’s Apple” or “it’s pretty”
Anyway what’s it got. Well firstly it’s processor power. Now packing all your favourite and latest Core i3, i5 and i7 processors with Core i3 offerings of 3.2GHz, i5 of 3.6GHz and the massive 27” iMac can house a super Quad-Core 2.93GHz Core i7. So speed is certainly upped. Memory wise they start with a decent enough 4GB of RAM which can be upgraded to 16GB. 500GB of HDD will be standard but one can now opt for the 256GB SSD or again if you’re looking at the behemoth 27”, it can hold up to 2TB of HDD. The SD card slot now supports SDXC cards which at the moment reach as far as 64GB so certainly there’s plenty of space to be found for all your media and docs. The other spec increase comes in the form of a ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics card perfectly capable of delivering high quality HD graphics and media content on the now standard LED backlit screen.
Packing all the usual goodies of Bluetooth, Firewire 800 and N-standard WiFi the new iMacs are ready to go now and will start at £999

Panasonic Lumix LX5 and TX10

Panasonic, always a brand you can trust (except maybe the 3DO lol) but definitely a great camera maker, have this week announced two new cameras to add to the family, the top quality compact Lumix LX5 and the tough and rugged Lumix TX10.
The LX5 is a top of the range compact, certainly capable of SLR quality imagery. With a 10.1MP Leica lens with the ability of taking 24mm wide angle images and has an optical zoom of up to 3.8x. Now the goodies. Full HD video clips recorded into the popular AVCHD Lite format but couple that with an HDMI out and you can view your shots and home movies straight to your HD telly. Panasonic have also claimed that on a full charge one can get a tasty 400 shots.
The TX10 on the other hand is for the more adventurous or perhaps clumsy of us. Unfortunately with no images to show, what we do know is it packs a 14.1MP lens capable of 4x optical zoom. With a shockproof body to withstand being dropped(to a certain degree) it is also waterproof in up to 10 feet of water.

Microsoft Kinect 19th November
August 3, 2010 by admin

Lucky for us we won’t all have to change our consoles hopefully for another few years at least, but we’re going to have to change the way we play them and actually do some work…… Thanks Nintendo Wii. With Playstation’s Move controller due soon and rumours of the Microsoft answer turned into reality the Kinect all we were waiting on was the date and price.
We had the new 250GB revamped Xbox and then the announcement of a 4GB console. With that announcement Microsoft told us the Kinect will cost £129.99 on its own or bundled with the new console for £249.99 (4GB console will cost £149.99 on its own) so when bundled you’re making a saving.
Then we were waiting for the date. Well it didn’t come from Microsoft straight away, but HMV and Play.com leaked that it was due for release on the 19th November, just in time for Christmas. A lot of talk between fan-boys though was the sheer price of the Kinect, which yes when compared to the Move controller, it’s more expensive. BUT I’ll defend it here in saying that if you want to play more than one player on the PS3 multiple Move controllers would have to be bought bumping the price up. Plus with the Kinect out before Christmas, you can probably guess if there’s still plenty in stock after Chrimbo, the price will no doubt drop.

LG on the 3D Laptop Bandwagon

3D is now obviously what every major tech gadget producer is aiming at with everything now coming in 3D. As a user I’m still not totally convinced but I’ve only watched the odd football match in 3D and not got my eyes on a decent 3D movie or game yet. LG recently launched the LG R590 3D laptop in Korea and it’s expected to hit our shores soon.
Powered with Intel’s Core i7 processor and 1GB of NVIDIA graphics goodness this 15.6” laptop ops for the polarising 3D effect and comes bundled with a fetching pair of the cheaper polarised frames. The 3D effect comes from the TriDef software we saw on Lenovo’s recently released IdeaPad Y560d 3D laptop, it converts the 2D images on the go into a 3D image, that when fired through a polarised screen into your Joe 90s the image “comes to life”. The laptop is also capable of HD quality sound and has the option for a Blu-Ray drive.
We have no details on the exact date of release or price but LG have also gone on to say they’re planning a plethora of 3D gadgets, including monitors for PC gaming and even 200” projectors with 3D capabilities.
