Mobile World Congress : Samsung Beam I8520

February 15, 2010 by admin

Obviously are straight out the blocks with the future of their phones in Barcelona. After the Wave S8500 comes the I8520 “Beam” phone.

Again we’ll see the new Super AMOLED this time at 3.7” of super sharp colourful greatness. However what differs this from the Wave is the “I” part of the model number. This means it’s OS will be Android. Packing a 5MP camera which shoots 720p video, 3G a-GPS and N-Standard WiFi.

What really makes this phone special though is sat right at the top of the phone……… A pico-projector! This allows you to show your videos and photos onto a white wall.It might well attract a business clientele is the ability to open MS Powerpoint documents and project them onto a wall, helping out in those board meetings and conferences. Now it won’t project HD video but you can hook it up to your HD telly and watch your captured movies.

Price and date are still TBC………

Asus O!Play Air Media Streamer

February 9, 2010 by admin

Looking for a decent media streamer? Not got a PS3 or 360?(maybe you do and you want something a little more dedicated.) Then Taiwanese specialists ASUS are letting us in Blighty get our grubby little mitts on the O!PlayAir HDP-R3.

Not the first media streamer ASUS have brought to the table but this one is its first to incorporate WiFi a must in most peoples eyes for a good media streamer. Now this baby is packing N-standard WiFi so if you’ve got an N enabled WiFi network you’ll get the full benefits.

So what does it do? Well firstly plug it into your TV via HDMI. Set up the usual settings of your network and BAM! you can play media wirelessly straight from your PC(providing your up to date with your Windows Media Player) or media server. For those who have ethernet connections, you can use that too.It plays all your standard file types, AVI, MP4, MPG etc but the bonus it does is play MKV which if you’re not familiar with seems to be the most used now for HD content.

Asus haven’t set a UK price yet but the HDP-R3 is retailing in Italy at €129.90 which is around £115 and should be available hopefully by the end of the week.

O2 testing 4G

December 14, 2009 by admin

The mobile giant has been testing and been successful in the next stage of mobile information speeds. 4G mobile broadband can reach speeds up to 150Mbps. This will surely see an end to HSDPA and will see “LTE” as its known come to our mobile phones and other web devices in the future.

The Chinese company Huawei worked alongside in the UK near to where ’s headquarters are based(in the Slough Area) and managed to get download rates to the 150Mbps mark. Currently HSDPA can only get between 3.6Mbps or 7.2Mbps(but we all know this is just theoretical and never actually happens just like your home broadband).

This obviously isn’t going to be instantly out there in the market as its only the first successful test of LTE that has worked and apparently we’re looking at late 2010 at least before we see 4G dongles or phones out there, with more than enough capability of HD streaming over the mobile network. The speeds are also obviously a lot faster than current home broadband speeds so lets hope we can see an improvement there too.

Keeping with Freeview HD : 3View Box

December 11, 2009 by admin

Again we have a new set top box here for you, that when released we can all bask in the glory of HD without the need for a Sky or cable subscription. Obviously Freesat is available and quite tempting with thinks like BBC iPlayer and ITV player but unless you’ve got the know how to install the dish, you’re stumping up the cash for that and either your integrated tv or box aswell.

3View have come with this great little box that with dual tuners will be able to snap up that HD signal and also with a built in 320GB HDD you’ll be able to record all your favourite shows. Not only that the 3View box can connect to the internet, use BBC iPlayer, Twitter, Facebook etc and any other web page. The big thing it will do that most wont is have access to HULU when it gets released in the UK giving you more access to web based TV. If you think this might be hard on a remote, no worries a keyboard and mouse will be available.

No price details as of yet but 3View are looking at a release of March.

Sky TV direct to your 360

September 28, 2009 by admin

After announcing it earlier this year, from the middle of October, Sky will be coming to your Xbox 360. Inside the Sky Magazine an article from Rupert Murdoch’s men confirmed the date and gave some info on this upcoming feature.

Already up is sky.com/xbox360, now it hasn’t got anything on the site as of yet but the article in the magazine gave us plenty of info. Basically if you have an Xbox Live Gold Account, you can receive basic access to the “Sky Player” If you are a Sky customer to boot you will be granted access to “premium content” probably live streams of the football and Sky’s exclusive programmes and movies.

We have no details on the pricing as of yet and overall this could cause the service to stumble but once again Microsoft are pushing the boat out with the content supplied through your xbox and obviously teaming up with a media giant like Sky it surely can’t disappoint.

Nokia N97 Mini : Leaked

August 4, 2009 by admin

Last month a Vodafone employee let slip the N97 would be getting a smaller counterpart, but obviously this wall was all rumours. Apparently though he was right and pictures and information have “leaked” onto t’internet.

The noticeable difference is the smaller screen and chassis. The D-Pad on the keyboard has been removed and the 32GB of memory has apparently been dropped to 8GB although you can still upgrade no doubt with microSD.

Unfortunately no date was leaked with it, but expect it to be Nokia’s attempt to draw back some customers from Apple, with a lower priced smartphone. The N97 is a great phone, will the mini live up to its big brother.

After we told you all about ’s plans for a watch phone, it’s Samsung’s turn now only this one is going to be a lot cheaper apparently.

11.98mm thick it’s and has what has been said to be the world’s thinnest touchscreen. Full specs on the S9110 aren’t out in full detail has such although it’s said to have a stainless steel outer shell like most watches, scratch-proof glass, Bluetooth 2.1, an MP3 player, speakerphone, voice recognition and Outlook email syncing.

This information has come out of Korea saying that the S9110 will be out in France next month for around 450 Euros. So hopefully it shouldn’t be too long before it hops over the channel.
